Courage in the Skies. Strength on the Ground. A Story That Echoes Across Generations.
Explore the untold history of World War II flight nurses through the eyes of author Dana Walker Lindley, as we discuss her new novel, Ascension: Portrait of a Woman (Three Generations of Women)—a powerful narrative rooted in real events, with local ties to Louisville’s Bowman Field.
Set against the backdrop of war and the Holocaust, Ascension follows two women—Colleen O’Brien and Elizabeth Kizer—who take flight as Army Air Corps nurses, navigating dangerous missions and personal transformations. Their stories of service, sacrifice, and resilience offer a unique lens on how Americans, especially women, responded to a world in crisis.
Whether or not you’ve read the book, all are welcome. Lindley will open with a brief overview, ensuring everyone can take part in the conversation.
